Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of heroes who will separate from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Questers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can expect discovering which characters will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
