Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then found many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say early analysis show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A senior political figure stated the incident made him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
